*Maybe* There’s Hope For Humanity Yet

Idiots sabotaging power stations. Thugs in Buffalo using the winter storm to loot.

But this…

Beautiful Story of Kindness Amidst Chaos in Buffalo
Despite the sad stories of damage, fatalities and looting, there are heartwarming stories coming out as well.

Twitter user Kimberly La Russa shared the beautiful story of a 64 year old mentally disabled man, Joey, who was saved from the frigid conditions, and probable death, by a kind stranger, Sha’Kyra Aughtry.

Older mentally disabled man caught out in the snow. He cries for help, and strangers rescue him and take him into their home, and get him defrosted. She gets on Facebook to ask for help, while her kids keep the poor guy entertained and distracted from his pain.

More strangers fire up a snow plow and dig them out and take the man to the hospital, where he’s being treated in the burn unit for severe frostbite.

Strangers doing the decent thing simply because they could.

Maybe I won’t write off America just yet.

  1. Oh, hell yeah. And boy howdy do I need stories like this, these days. Thank you for that.

It reminds me a bit of some of the day-to-day stories from the loopiest parts of the early Covidiocy. We heard a number of them up here, my favorite being the story of the grocer in Gustavus who took it upon himself to bridge the supply chain gap, personally, when the state ferry system shut down–so that his no-road-system town could actually still get supplies.

I got my days, too, when a big ol’ SMOD seems like the only answer. And I hate it particularly that all this insanity gets me down as much as it does–because I know that the dickheads want to cultivate despair and despondency. It’s always my goal to revel in denying them that, but even at my very best I still find it inspiring to hear about others doing the “authentic human” thing even better.

    1. A weekly 100 mile round trip in an LCT? I’ve heard those aren’t a particularly pleasant ride, but I never had the dubious pleasure of trying it.

  2. They’re not *idiots* sabotaging power stations, they’re cold (pun intended) calculating individuals acting with a purpose. I’ll leave it to you to ponder who their sponsor is.

  3. I grew up in a little burb just north of Boofaloo… thats how the people are there. It stands in great contrast to those hailing from the SE end of the state, but the People of Buffalo really are a great, caring lot. Its a shame the dregs from NYFC ruin the whole states reputation. Funny how those big shiny blue cities all seem to do that wherever they are? We need to encircle them and starve the cancer from our midst.
