Yes, Transportation Secretary Buttplug managed to blame the East Palestine train wreck on Trump.
“We’re constrained by law on some areas of rail regulation (like the braking rule withdrawn by the Trump administration in 2018 because of a law passed by Congress in 2015), but we are using the powers we do have to keep people safe. And of course, I’m always ready to work with Congress on furthering (or in some cases, restoring) our capacity to address rail safety issues.”
Actually, the proposed rule was withdrawn in 2017. But the why and who…
The why.
The U.S. Department of Transportation on December 4 announced that it will withdraw a 2015 regulation requiring the use of electronically controlled pneumatic (ECP) brakes on certain trains carrying flammable liquids, on the grounds that the safety benefits were inconclusive and the cost-benefit analysis was negative.
The who.
In October 2016, GAO found fault with DOT’s original calculation of the benefits of the rule, and TRB reported two months ago that it was “unable to make a conclusive statement concerning the emergency performance of ECP brakes relative to other braking systems.”
You may recall that Trump was not in office in 2016. Or 2015, when the law was passed and signed. That was some Dim named Obama, whose veep was…
Gropin’ Joe.
But… Waaah! Trump!

The apparent cause of the wreck was due to a failed roller bearing on an axle of a car which then burned off dropping the wheels and axle onto the ground. The type of braking system was not a factor as either conventional air brakes or ECP( air brake electronically activated by regulating current in a wire connected throughout the train) would still have initiated an emergency brake application once the car or cars derailed. Pete Butthead is grossly unqualified to hold any official capacity in transportation.
