We’re losing the secret ballots, though. Vote-by-mail offers opportunities for Big Brother to associate the ballot with the voter, but any outside-the-booth voting scheme makes it all too easy for others to demand to see your marked ballot: your spouse, the boss, the shop steward, the community organizer, the guy who’s paying you $20 to vote for his Uncle Bill for dogcatcher, etc.
