Whippersnapper

As seen at Knuckledraggin’.

56K? Snot-nosed kid.

I remember using 50WPM teletype.

Modems? My first personally owned modem was a Hayes Smartmodem 300 (yes, 300 baud; not 300K, children). Over the years, I worked with 1200 baud, 2400 baud…

I thought my brand new 14.4K modem was shit-hot. 28.8? Whoaaa…

And then the 56Ks came out. Sunnuvabi…

If anyone has ever wonder why my sites/blogs tend to be pretty barebones by 21st century, I-have-5G-and-gigabit-fiber standards, now you know.

And you don’t want to get me started on storage media. Sure, I still have 8″, 5.25″, and 3.5″ floppies.

But who else here used paper tape?

Asymmetric Civil War

OK, one more.

You want to confiscate “AR-15s”?

If a weapon is so dangerous that a squad of police officers are too afraid to confront a single person wielding it, that weapon should be banned.

Response: Man if a squad of cops is afraid to confront one AR-15 imagine how fun it will be to forcibly confiscate 20 million of them

Reminded me of something I wrote more than 7 years ago.

Two separated pairs of people, most seemingly with no or minimal training (guessing; based on unreliable muddia reports, one brother may have gotten some training in Yemen) are tying up roughly 90,000 allegedly trained, and well-armed, troops. a 1:22,500 ratio in manpower alone. Asymmetric warfare rules.
[…]
Four. For a few days.

There are probably at least 100 million gun owners in America.

Hmm. Last estimate I saw of AR-pattern weapons alone was 16,000,000. Say they have to go collect half of ’em.

At that ratio, I figure they’ll need 180,000,000,000 cop….

Uh oh.

Maybe they can do a little better than that. I haven’t seen an estimate of all the police deployed to the Robb Elementary shooting (1 shooter, 1 Bushmaster), but this says they sent nineteen officers into the school.

So maybe they do the AR- confiscation job with a mere…

152,000,000 cops.

Houston, we they may still have a problem.

Pondering Etymology vs. Stupidity

One more, then I think I need to pack it in for the day before my head explodes..

San Francisco drops ‘chief’ from school job titles over cultural sensitivities
The San Francisco Unified School District announced Wednesday that it would no longer use the word “chief” in employee job titles due to its connection to Native American culture.
[…]
“While there are many opinions on the matter, our leadership team agreed that, given that Native American members of our community have expressed concerns over the use of the title, we are no longer going to use it,” district spokeswoman Gentle Blythe said in a statement.

Dafuq? Just which Native American/Indigeous American/Indian/whateverthehellweresupposedtocallthem language does “chief” come from. What is the etymology?

Because I stupidly thought “chief” was an English word. That it came from Middle English in the 14th century, long before Europeans rediscovered North America.

That Europeans used their own word for the local headman (often a “headman” selected by said Euros, because little hunter/gather tribes actually had no such formal designation in the first place) in much the way that we might refer to a Generalissimo as a General in our own language.

Clearly, since San Franciscans couldn’t possibly be moronic mental midgets, the word really was imported from some obscure Native dialect, as we imported canyon from Spanish.

So which one?

Maybe I’m a bad person, but I’m judging.

Judge not lest ye be judged” may be fine when criticizing lifestyle choices. But when you start mass-murdering children I’m going to get a little judgey.

Mother of Uvalde Shooter Speaks Out: ‘He Had His Reasons For Doing What He Did and Please Don’t Judge Him’

Say what?

“He had his reasons for doing what he did and please don’t judge him. I only want the innocent children who died to forgive me.”

He had… his… reasons?

When asked what possibly reason he could have had, Reyes said “to get closer to those children instead of paying attention to the other bad things”

“Get closer” means fucking murder??!

And dear Bog what was she afraid her little judgement-free angel might do that would be worse than murdering nineteen young, innocent children?

Reports claim this bitch is a drug addict. I believe it.

And I’m getting a little judgmental about her, too.

Did The Uvalde School Shooter Start His Threats In 2018?

David Codrea had an interesting Uvalde-related post yesterday. It was about this May 2018 report about a couple of Uvalde teens threatening to shoot up a school; one 13yo and one 14yo.

Two teens arrested in ‘mass casualty’ plot in 2018 targeting a Uvalde middle school
One of our Morales Junior High students was experiencing a crisis. Upon rendering aid and support, the student revealed a future plan to conduct a school shooting in the year of 2022.

That raised my eyebrows a little. Lessee, one was 14 in 2018. Counting up to 2022 is four years making that punk 18.

In May of 2022. Just like the Robb Elementary shooter who had turned 18 on May 16, 2022.

Coincidence? Same punk? Damfino.

Now today:

BREAKING: Texas shooter was arrested at 14 for threatening to shoot up school
Texas Republican Tony Gonzalez says that Uvalde school shooter Salvador Ramos was arrested four years ago after he said that he would commit a shooting when he turns 18.
[…]
“This wasn’t hearsay. I got this late last night: ‘The shooter was arrested years ago, four years ago, for having this plan for basically saying, for saying, you know, when I’m a senior in 2022, I am going to shoot up a school.’
[…]
“The police looked into it and arrested him. He went to juvenile, from what I can gather, he went to a correctional facility,” he said, according to Daily Mail.

Supposedly the 2018 14yo’s juvenile record is sealed (normal enough for juves), so this going to be moderately tough to confirm. Some judge will have to be convinced to unseal the record.

IF…

…this is accurate and the same person, then in 2018, he made a threat credible enough for him to be arrested. Allegedly, it was credible enough for him to be sent to a “correctional facility.” Now add in that the known Robb shooter was taken into custody in 2021 and held for a day and a half for a mental health evaluation.

Same guy? With an established record of threatening behaviors?

And no judge adjudicated him mentally deficient? So never never was reported to NICS as a prohibited person? So he could lawfully buy a gun?

Say what you will about the police response on the day of the shooting. I have questions about the courts’ responses in 2018 and 2021.

IF Republicans Betray Us?

IF?

If Republicans Collaborate with Dems to Betray Us on the 2A, They Will Lose the Midterms

Schlicter posted that May 27, 2022, 12:01AM. I.E.- early this morning.

Little late, guy. Yesterday:

Mitch McConnell Urges GOP to Work with Democrats on Gun Control Legislation

It looks like he wants a federal no-due process “red flag” law.

Not that it will do a bit of good, but I sent Yertle a message yesterday:

RE: “Mitch McConnell Urges GOP to Work with Democrats on Gun Control Legislation”

No.

Enough, Yertle.

All things considered, it’s almost as if Republicans want another Battle of Athens. On a national scale.

They would getHunting Season.”

Peter Grant Has Some Questions About Georgia Elections

Let’s start with his post title.

Is Georgia still riddled with electoral fraud?

Looking at the unbelievable votes tallies, the simple answer appears to be an unequivocal “Yes.”

The correct answer is that the overall system is fraudulent, but riddled with scattered honest precincts.

When one considers that Kemp and Raffensperger were the politicians who went with the 2020 election results, without challenging them in any way despite overwhelming evidence of cheating, one can’t help asking whether they were involved in electoral fraud then – and whether they’re simply repeating their performance now, to safeguard their own positions.

That’s a little more complicated; and you need to look at the two… gentlemen separately.

Kemp’s role in the 2020 mess was largely passive. He let the clear fraud go unchallenged. Although not at first.

Originally, Kemp promised real audits of the BS results. Then there was a really odd auto crash (single vehicle accident that resulted in the car bursting into a ball of fire, Hollywood-style) that injured his daughter and killed her boyfriend.

Suddenly Kemp stopped all calls for audits. He pretty much had nothing to say on the subject again.

‘Round here, people think he was threatened into silence and inaction.

But since his role was passive, he could sign a few pro-gun rights bills, suspend fuel taxes, and the forgetful voters could move on thinking they’re just reelecting a good Republican. Mostly, Kemp’s numbers were still strange enough — against Perdue? — that it’s also clear that he was awarded a comfortable election margin for good behavior.

Raffensperger is another matter. His role was extremely active and pro-fraud-active. And everyone knows it.

Ballot drop boxes in 2020 violated state law. That was never up for debate (which is why Republicans later threw the left a bone and legalized them — albeit with a lot of restrictions — later).

Raffensperger is the person who unlawfully “authorized” illegal ballot drop boxes.

Note that when Trump questioned this, it was Raffensperger’s office that leaked a falsified account of Trump’s phone call, and attempted to destroy the recording that would prove they lied.

Note (2) that when voting integrity groups started geo-tracking drop box mules (and matching them up to video recordings), Raffensperger claimed he had no evidence of such thing… after they had turned the evidence over to his office.

Note (3) that when the publicity was getting so bad that Raffensperger had to pretend to do something about the evidence… he subpoenaed the voting integrity groups, not the identified mules.

Backing up a little, we see Raffensperger’s criminality in the Senate run-offs. Once it was established that run-offs would be required for both Georgia Senator positions, Raffensperger opened up voter registration again, with a specific deadline for new voters to vote in the January run-offs. The problem is, that violates the state constitution and state law, which specify that the only people eligible to vote in run-offs are those who were already eligible to vote in the initial general election. If you were not a registered Georgia voter before the general election, it’s a felony to vote in the run-off later.

But Raffensperger allowed it, refused to investigate reports of newly registered voters voting, and never sought prosecution of those fraudulent votes he enabled.

We had new “voters” registering out of post office boxes (though they called the boxes “APT #”). Yep, PO boxes at the post office street address. Raffensperger said he didn’t really know those were PO boxes and not apartments without an “investigation.” And no, he wasn’t going to investigate that because there was no proof — other than state voter roles — that it happened.

Georgians know this.

Now, you might think that my take on what Georgians believe is merely selection bias; that I just associate with people who believe know that Raffensperger is a crook.

This part might seem like a digression, but bear with me for a moment. State-level Secretary of State is usually — so far as voters on the street think — an obscure office. Unless you live in Georgia, can you name your Secretary of State, without looking it up?

Georgians can. Now.

Last week, I was gassing up my sister’s car (thank god she could afford it, because I can’t*). The guy at the pump on the other side of mine spotted one of those Biden “I Did That” stickers. This is a guy I’d never seen before in my life (I think; it’s a small town, so maybe I’ve seen him, but I didn’t know him).

He immediately went into a rant about how 1) Democrats are fucking us over, 2) idiots keep reelecting them knowing they’re fucking us over, and 3) scumbag Republican like Raffensperger and Kemp are helping them fuck us over.

All I could do was agree completely.

But Kemp and Raffensperger won in landslides of adoring voters.

* Remember when gas stations and convenience stores wouldn’t even accept $50 bills, because they didn’t want too much cash in the register at once, they didn’t want to empty their register of smaller bills making change, and the possibility that a large denomination bill could be counterfeit? Now they just take them without blinking when you prepay and hope $50 is enough to top off the tank.

Just When I was Liking The Way He Is Making Lefty Heads Implode

I’m not really a fan of Elon Musk. But, yeah, the whole Twitter thing has been fun, as the socialists freak out over the possibility of losing a fragment of control.

But Musk really can’t help returning to his own left-wing roots.

Delgado: Thoughts on the AR-15 discussion or too controversial for you to weigh in on?

Musk: Assault rifles should at minimum require a special permit, where the recipient is extremely well vetted imo

A couple of points, Tesla-boy.

1. He asked about AR-15s, not assault rifles.

2. Assault rifles for civilians are limited to those manufactured and registered by May 1986. They are heavily regulated under the NFA. Lawfully obtaining one requires a $200 tax, background checks, permission slip/tax stamp, and the process can take many months before you can take possession. The deliberately restricted market has driven up prices of transferable assault rifles to insane levels even without the NFA and sales taxes. You could afford one; I can’t.

Basically, assault rifles do require extreme vetting and “special permits.”

How ’bout you STFU until you have a clue as to what you’re talking about.

Or is that “Sally” Ramos?

This is the largest signal of world intelligence I’ve seen in a while.

It gives me hope for humanity.

Moderna tosses 30 million COVID-19 vaccine doses because ‘nobody wants them’
“It’s sad to say I’m in the process of throwing 30 million doses in the garbage because nobody wants them. We have a big demand problem,” [Moderna CEO Stephan] Bancel said.

Bancel said Moderna has reached out to several countries to see if any governments wanted the vaccines but that the interest is not there.

I certainly don’t want that shit injected into me. I don’t care how a big a year-end bonus Bancel was hoping for.

Several months ago, my county closed all their ChinCOVID pseudo-vaccination sites (except for county health headquarters) for lack of demand. I guess we average a little smarter than the rest of the world.
