Apparently Axios Is Branching Out Into Dry Humor

That’s the generous explanation for this ridiculous piece, anyway.

Jan. 6 committee’s October surprise

Surprise? To whom? Judging from face to face conversations, and mainstream and “conservative” media, everyone expected this.

Except the geniuses at Axios apparently.

Despite the panel’s long-stated goal of avoiding perceptions of partisanship or politicization…

Wait. We are talking about the January 6 Kangaroo Committee, right? The one that broke House rules to prevent Republicans picking members, and stocked it with Dims and a couple of rabidly — to the point of getting voted out by irate constituents — anti-Trump RINOs?

Thompson told Axios the panel does not want to be “perceived as a partisan committee … we’ve been fairly free of those kind of complaints, and we would not want to interfere with the election.”

Free of partisanship complaints? I suppose… if you don’t count the folks who refused to testify because it’s a rule-breaking partisans witch hunt, media observatiosn, and at least a couple of filed lawsuits.

But he said the time between an expected Sept. 28 hearing and the election “won’t be a quiet period.” He also said that “the goal is to have … some information pushed out, obviously, before the November election.

No shit. That’s why this is no surprise to anyone but Axios.

Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-Fla.), who is not seeking reelection, said: “This effort is not political, so I am indifferent to when the election is.”

Said no politicians ever, until this.

But finally we see something significant, of also expected.

Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) told Axios the committee is “just working at our own pace” and they’ll release their final report “when we’re ready.”

Universal BS Translation: We’re going to release plenty of unsubstantiated innuendo and allegations in time for the mid-terms, but no official report — that we have to legally back up — until some vague time in the — post elections — future.

Bear in mind that even this report states that the committee has an “expiration date” of December 31. If nonpartisan honesty was their goal, they’d be polishing up the final report now, getting it ready for release in no more than a mere three months. And that would be working at warp speed by government standards.

Hard To Say If This Is Propaganda Drivel..

…or if Bowser believes it. My general impression of the mayor is that she is dumber than a box of rocks.

“We’re Not a Border Town. We Don’t Have the Infrastructure to Handle This Type of Immigration to Our City… We’re Not Texas” – Democrat DC Mayor Bowser

It could go either way. She could be spouting the Dim’s illegal alien party line. But she’s appears so stupid that she might just think that a “border town” is something that was set up, with full support infrastructure, just to facilitate international entry.

That could explain why Dims profess to think that a town like Eagle Pass — population 28,000, median income $23,000 — should be able to better handle thousands — per day, sometimes — of illegals; while her town of 690,000, median income $77,000, cannot.

Oh, Yeah. Let’s Go There.

From campaign signs in Florida to this, I’m beginning to think President Dementia isn’t the only one in need of a cognitive function test. I’m looking at you PRC Gov. Newsom.

Triggered: Gavin Newsom Calls on Justice Department to Investigate Martha’s Vineyard Migrant Flights for Kidnapping
Democrat California Governor Gavin Newsom, a potential 2024 presidential candidate, released a letter sent to the Biden Justice Department Thursday calling for a federal investigation of Wednesday’s two flights of 50 migrants to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts for kidnapping, RICO and civil rights charges. The flights were coordinated by one of Newsom’s potential 2024 rivals, Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

If that was “kidnapping,” then DeSantis should counter any federal investigation with 787.10 kidnapping charges for every fed involved in their little immigrant airlifts.

Texas Gov Abbott can play that, too. Texas Penal Code Sec. 20.03.

But really? Kidnapping for a free flight and vacation on the beautiful resort island of Martha’s Vineyard?

Maybe if DeSantis had sent them to San Francisco.

TZP Column: DC Ammo Limit Lawsuit

Dick Heller strikes again.

DC AMMUNITION LIMITS: THAT DIDN’T LAST LONG
Back in July, Dick Heller sued Washington, DC. Again. This time it was over a stupidly arbitrary (or is that arbitrarily stupid?) limit on the amount of ammunition a lawful concealed carrier could carry. This wasn’t even a law or ordinance, but just a nonlegislative “rule” issued by the chief of police.

Given the “general historical tradition” test of Bruen, I figured that was going to get shot right down.

“Did they check whether Mr. Huff’s firearm was registered?”

Alternate Title: When Judges Have No Idea What They’re Talking About

Via Volokh Conspiracy we have a federal magistrate ruling on a peculiar police shooting, Huff v. City of Aurora.

TL;DR: Based on the unsupported word of a drug addict, cops snuck up on a seemingly innocent man at midnight, and shot him in the ass. Almost sounds humorous, but the injury was pretty bad.

The cops wanted immunity. Properly, the magistrate said, “Nope.” But one thing in this struck me, and which Volokh apparently didn’t catch was this:

Moreover, what “preparations” the officers were taking during this time is relevant. Did they check the criminal records of the parties? Did they check whether Mr. Huff’s firearm was registered? Did they bother to inquire whether there were prior reports from the parties that had previously been investigated by other officers the same day? Did they see that the brothers had been cleared of wrongdoing by their fellow officers? These are issues to be developed during discovery…

Registered? This is Colorado. Not only does the state not have firearms registration, but registration is forbidden by CRS § 29-11.7-102.

(1) A local government, including a law enforcement agency, shall not maintain a list or other form of record or database of:

(a) Persons who purchase or exchange firearms or who leave firearms for repair or sale on consignment;

(b) Persons who transfer firearms, unless the persons are federally licensed firearms dealers;

(c) The descriptions, including serial numbers, of firearms purchased, transferred, exchanged, or left for repair or sale on consignment.

That’s something a magistrate should know before even suggesting that the cops should check registration.

Strike? What Strike?

We don’t see any strike.

BREAKING: Amtrak cancels ALL long-distance trains (except those along the Northern Corridor) ahead of looming rail strike — which would send inflation soaring, disrupt food supplies and cost nation $2b a day
Amtrak, the nation’s cross-country railway system, is canceling all of its long distance trains ahead of a planned freight workers’ strike that threatens to destroy the U.S. economy.

The announcement on Wednesday effectively cancels all planned trips, including along the popular New York City to Chicago Lake Shore Limited Line and the Silver Star from New York City to Miami. The only area that will not be affected by the train cancelations are those in the northeast corridor, between Boston and Washington DC.

The Boston to DC corridor. Can’t afford to inconvenience our NE coastal elite betters.

The trains there will run, and they’ll be puzzled why everyone else in the country is bitching about screwed-up cross-country shipping, shortages, and skyrocketing prices.

Maybe someone should tell them Biden doesn’t take Amtrak to work from Delaware anymore.

TZP Column: School Library Books

LET’S TEST THAT THEORY
“Doctor” Jill, self-appointed caregiver/chaperone for the senile Groper-In-Chief, apparently believes all books are suitable for schoolchildren.
[…]
Personally, I disagree. And I don’t think excluding certain topics from libraries specifically intended for developing minors is censorship.
[…]
But if nothing is to be off limits, let’s see what the groomers think of these books.

Men In Children First

Via Peter Grant, we have a short video, “If Titanic Was In 2022.” I noticed one little detail which seems to have escaped most…

Ordinarily, I’d chalk that up to an auto-captioning goof. But given the context here…

The GESTAPO Is Out In Force

This was the Babylon Bee on September 12.

Trump Voters Put Biden Signs In Their Yards So That The FBI Will Pass Over Them
In an effort to escape the wrath of a weaponized federal government, supporters of former president Donald Trump are placing Biden signs in their yards with the hope that it will cause the FBI to pass over their houses.

“Reality” this morning.

FBI Shows up on Trump Supporter’s Doorstep, and She Wasn’t Even at the Capitol on Jan. 6
Gallagher didn’t work in the Trump White House, nor was she present at the Capitol riot, yet she somehow ended up in the Biden administration’s crosshairs. She told her story to Tucker Carlson on Monday evening.
[…]
She continued, “In my bedroom, I thought, ‘Am I not coming home?’ So I went outside. I said, ‘Gentlemen, you’re scaring me.’ They proceeded to tell me they were given an anonymous tip that I was at the Capitol on January 6th.”

As Carlson noted, the feds already admitted that they used facial recognition systems on the crowd to identify participants. They’ve also admitted to using phone geofencing to ID people. there.

But that’s insufficient to incriminate the innocent non-participants, so they’ve fallen back on the ever-handy “anonymous tip.”

I’m waiting for them to start showing up for people who weren’t born yet.

And for FBI agents to start disappearing. What? Who? Nah, they never showed up here. They musta taken a wrong turn.
