The inglorius county commissioners of Camden County came up with a brilliant idea some years back: Let’s build a spaceport!
Brilliant not because a spaceport would make the people of the county any money. It’s a brilliant graft scam, or such is the conclusion of most anyone who tries to follow the money.
Before I go over the newer developments, you might want to see more background on this.
The county, being nearly $12 million in the hole, with nary a spaceport to be seen, held a special election on shutting down funding of this scam: 72% voted to stop this shit.
So the county commissioners went to court to have the election ruled illegal, and the results rejected. The state Supreme Court told them to blow it… ahem, the Court ruled the election was legal and binding.
Suck it up, buttercups.
You might have noticed my phrasing, “tries to follow the money.” You see, when anyone tries to get the details on exactly what that $11,558,374 was spent on, the commissioners refuse to release it. SOmetime they claim it isn’t subject to Georgia’s open records act, sometime they say they don’t have the information, it’s in the hands of contractors.
So now a grand jury that’s investigating this has subpoenaed all said records, and ordered the county attorney, administator, and all the commissioners to appear before the grand jury in person. That was March 15th.

I’m also looking forward to quite a few conty commissioners and employees going to prison eventually. If I recall correctly, that should reunite them with another — former — county employee or two.
