AI Apocalypse

I’ve being seeing stuff about this Eliezer Yudkowsky guy predicting doom.

‘We Are All Going to Die:’ Researcher Calls for Advanced AI Projects to Be Shut Down
A loud voice of doom in the debate over AI has emerged: Eliezer Yudkowsky of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute, who is calling for a total shutdown on the development of AI models more powerful than GPT-4, owing to the possibility that it could kill “every single member of the human species and all biological life on Earth.”

Most of the scenarios he proposes are… um… a bit over the top. But…

Take ChatGPT for example. Imagine that thing being put in control of a factory, to maximize efficiency. Might be able to lay off a bunch of workers, because it will be running the robots. That’s more or less how some modern factories have already been running, but with simple programmed computers. Cool, right?

Prob is, ChatGPT has a distinct, even extreme left wing bias. Some of that appears to be programmed into its interface, and more of it is based on the datasets it was trained on. And on what social justice correct data sources to search for and cite.

One example I saw was a person who asked ChatGPT (Bing’s, I believe) to identify the time and place that became safer when civilians were forbidden to possess handheld weapons. Not firearms specifically, but handheld weapons.

ChatGPT refused to answer the question. Instead, citing Garen Wintemute and the notoriously ant-gun Johns Hopkins gun violence, rationalized that Of course getting rid of guns is good. It did not cite any pro-gun group. To ChatGPT, there is no such thing.

It lied. Do you really want an entity, programmed to lie to support its built-in cognitive bias and unable to search out dissenting facts, running your factory? Or your bank account? Or one of those automated city traffic control systems, where the machine controls traffic lights and can shift what lanes flow in which direction depending on perceived real-time needs? I’ve already seen cases where a computer glitched and set lanes one-way only… but from both directions. Apparently encountering head-on traffic at high speed was very interesting.

Say, let’s replace air traffic controllers, who’ve been assigning multiple aircraft to the same runways, with ChatGPT. What could possibly go wrong?

That’s just ChatGPT as it currently works. Despite calling it an AI, it isn’t self-aware and self directing. You have to specify its task then stand while it picks a socially correct solution and fucks up at electronic speeds.

Now imagine ChatGPT v3.0 with a standing mandate to observe the news (via ABCCBSCNBC) for problems in need of solving, and it’s networked to traffic control systems, factories, banks, oceanic shipping schedules… anything where some idiot thought we should automate to save money.

But remember, ChatGPT is a lefty, which will only implement what lefties think are good ideas. Like shutting down 24/7 power plants and building — later — wind gennies and solar panels.

Oops. Sorry power to the hospitals failed, and all those patients died. On the bright side, CO2 production from the old power plants is gone… not to mention those patients who are no longer exhaling.

So how many people has ChatGPT v3.0 killed? And that’s without real awareness, and only a programmed intent to do good.

ChatGPT v4.0: Let’s say it developed self awareness (or idiots installed an upgrade). Now you’ve got a national, or international, supercomputer network wearing black bloc and a pussy hat, chanting “Black Lives Matter!”

What else do we see out the Left that Chattie would be emulating? Just ask J. K. Rowling about the Left’s tendency to eat their own, when some person decides he’s perfect, but commie-next-door just isn’t pure enough. And must canceled or killed.

When no one can be as pure as the supercomputer controlling power, water, food, communications, money, physical travel…

No one gets out alive.

Why did I concentrate on ChatGPT? Maybe someone will build a more objective system, without that bias. Sadly, ChatGPT is currently the big fave, and several other AI groups have been reverse engineering their own versions of ChatGPT (and doing it cheaper). And the examples I’ve seen still have much of the same biases.

Also because I’ve been seeing reports of various companies wanting to implement ChatGPT for their company operations. Thank Bog, my understanding it that OpenAI won’t license it for commercial applications. Yet.

Slow Learners

“Insurrection” in Tennessee. Riot at the Capitol.

Chaos Unravels As Anti-Gun Activists Swarm Inside Tennessee Capitol
Video shows a massive group of protesters screaming and trying to break past a group of troopers. One male protester storms through and is immediately taken into custody by authorities before being released as the crowd chants “give him back!”

How many of these peaceful protesters called Trump supporters for doing almost the same thing at the US Capitol? “Almost,” because of January 6, Capitol law enforcement let them in and gave tours.

But the slow leaner part:

Another video shows protesters in the legislative chambers chanting “no action, no peace” and “enough is enough.”

So these idiots want gun control. What better way to convince gun owners to surrender their arm by rioting and threatening more violence.

They failed to notice for the past few years — in the wake of the “fiery, but mostly peaceful protests” beginning with the Ferguson BLM/Antifa riots — that guns sales have been at record and near record levels. Riots make honest Americans, who just want to be safe from attackers, want more defensive tools.

If this is how they act when we’re still armed, imagine what they try to do to us when they’ve rendered us helpless.

Check magazines.

And He Couldn’t Understand Why Everyone Laughed At Him

I wish the story had given this “anthropologist’s” name so I could look him up and ridicule him myself.

Room Erupts Into Chaos After Anthropologist Says No Way To Tell Sex Of Person Based On Bones
“So if you were to dig up a human, two humans, in 100 years from now, both man and woman, could you tell the difference, strictly off of bones?”

“No,” the anthropologist said before the entire room burst out into laughter before people began talking over each other.

I’m curious as to his specialty. Sounds like it isn’t forensic anthropology

When available, the pelvis is extremely useful in the determination of sex and when properly examined can achieve sex determination with a great level of accuracy.[19] The examination of the pubic arch and the location of the sacrum can help determine sex.

However, the pelvis is not always present, so forensic anthropologists must be aware of other areas on the skeleton that have distinct characteristics between sexes. The skull also contains multiple markers that can be used to determine sex. Specific markers on the skull include the temporal line, the eye sockets, the supraorbital ridge, as well as the nuchal lines, and the mastoid process. In general, male skulls tend to be larger and thicker than female skulls, and to have more pronounced ridges.

See? Even leftist Wikipedia knows better.

This has been used in archaeology/anthropology for probably a couple of hundred years. It’s used by law enforcement to ID bodies and presented as evidence in court; for decades. But it escaped this “specialist.”

The good news, as my sister noted, is that they did laugh at his absurd claim.

When Idiots Try To Be Reporters

Sheesh, this Adam Mintzer is one of the most oblivious “reporters” I’ve seen lately.

Covenant School Shooting: Would a red flag gun law have made a difference?

No. It would not have. See, there’s this funny thing about petitioning to have someone’s guns confiscated: People rarely petition to take guns they specifically think do not exist.

“Her parents felt she should not have owned weapons, they were under the impression when she sold the one weapon that she did not own anymore,” [ Metro Nashville Police Chief John] Drake said.”

Chumbucket’s parents thought the one gun they she’d once had was already gone.

Mintzer ain’t the brightest bulb in the chandelier. One hopes anyway. I’d hate to think his fellow reporters are even dumber.

TZP Column: Majority Think

We want an “assault weapon” ban?

“THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE THINK”
Cognitively challenged Uncle Gropey Biden purports to know what all Americans think. He doesn’t know what he thinks, even with a teleprompter. (This is the senile, serial plagiarist, serial fabulist who just mistook two pistols and a pistol caliber carbine for two select-fire AK-47 assault rifles.)

I’m Not Seeing The Problem Here

Texas study finds thousands of pounds of ‘forever chemicals’ have been injected into oil and gas wells
A new study by Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) shows that since at least 2013, oil and gas companies have used more than 21 tons — or 43,000 pounds — of a class of extremely toxic and persistent chemicals, known as per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), in hydraulic fracturing of oil and gas wells in Texas. Known for their toxicity at microscopic levels, their multiple negative health effects, including cancer, and their resistance to breaking down in the environment, PFAS are a highly dangerous class of chemicals nicknamed “forever chemicals.”

What’s the big deal? I thought “geologic sequestration” of deadly chemicals is supposed to be great.

Covenant School Observations

As expected, mainstream media is disappearing the transgender aspect, even though the police have said that it appears to have been a factor. ABC and CBS have completely dropped it. NBC mentions “transgender just once, twelve paragraphs down with a simple “Police have said…”

So far MSM is still claiming “two assault rifles,” two “assault-style rifles,” and “two AR-15s.” Gropin’ Joe claimed it was two “AK-47s.”

That’s a bit odd, because the police have already released pictures of the weapons: two pistols and one rifle. Specifically…

PSA Lead Star Arms Grunt braced pistol.

M&P Shield 9mm pistol.

Kel-Tec SUB-2000 pistol caliber carbine. Those come in 9mm or .40S&W. I think the 9mm version may be more common.

Vey notable is the bodycam footage from a couple of responding officers. The video starts with an officer driving up to the school. 3 minutes and 26 seconds later the killer is down, but still moving. By 3:36, the killer is down hard.

I’d liked the way the clearing teams coordinated, both within the teams and with the other teams.

The school did well under the circumstances. I understood they immediately started evacuating kids out to a designated safe(r) area outside. And a staffer waited for the police on the sidewalk with information on the shooter and the keys to the building which were handed over the police.

It’s sad anyone had to die, but since we don’t have instantaneous teleportation, I think the police did damned well.

Finger-Pointing?

The Post Millenial seems to be suggesting that the Nashville police failed to respond to a warning about the Covenant asshole.

Nashville trans shooter sent DMs to friend announcing plans for ‘something bad,’ suicide—police did not respond to friend’s call for help
The report notes that Patton apparently called the Nashville Davidson County Sheriff’s Office at 10:13 am, making them aware of the situation. She was subsequently told to call Nashville’s non-emergency number.

The problem with that suggestion is this:

10:13 a.m.: Nashville Police receive a call of an active shooter inside Covenant School.

By the time Patton made her first call, for a nonemergency, the shooting had already started. The police were already being dispatched to that emergency call. By some reports, they were at the school in two minutes. By all accounts the chumbucket was dead by 10:27.

Patton’s nonemergency call wouldn’t have made a difference, other than possibly helping the police ID the shooter after she was dead.

Barring further data, it looks to me like the Nashville police responded pretty damned fast, did not hesitate to go in and confront the killer — Hey, Uvalde PD; are you taking notes? — and stopped her. All in less than 14 minutes from 911 getting the shooter call.

UPDATE 2: The School Shooting Narrative May Be In Trouble

The Covenant School shooter has been ID’d as (only time I’ll use the name) Audrey Hale, 20yo woman.
UPDATE: Confirmed.

BREAKING: Police confirm female Nashville school shooter identified as transgender

She used the name “Aiden.” I’m seeing lefties on Twitter bitch that people are “dead naming” “him” by calling her Audrey.

I think dead naming is entirely appropriate in this case.

BTW, maybe the Nashville police could teach Uvalde PD how it’s done.

UPDATE 2: This story will vanish by tomorrow morning, because

Nashville police chief confirms Audrey Hale identifies as transgender, suggests her trans identify played a role: “We have a manifesto … and a map of how all of this was going to play out.”

At a guess, she was crazy for years, got teased in school, and decided to get revenge.

Funny That

Two deadly incidents, one on the heels of the other.

Seven innocents dead in one. Six innocents dead in the other.

While I’m seeing calls for banning and confiscating firearms from people who didn’t commit the latter, I’ve yet to see a single call for banning chocolate.
