Covenant School Observations

As expected, mainstream media is disappearing the transgender aspect, even though the police have said that it appears to have been a factor. ABC and CBS have completely dropped it. NBC mentions “transgender just once, twelve paragraphs down with a simple “Police have said…”

So far MSM is still claiming “two assault rifles,” two “assault-style rifles,” and “two AR-15s.” Gropin’ Joe claimed it was two “AK-47s.”

That’s a bit odd, because the police have already released pictures of the weapons: two pistols and one rifle. Specifically…

PSA Lead Star Arms Grunt braced pistol.

M&P Shield 9mm pistol.

Kel-Tec SUB-2000 pistol caliber carbine. Those come in 9mm or .40S&W. I think the 9mm version may be more common.

Vey notable is the bodycam footage from a couple of responding officers. The video starts with an officer driving up to the school. 3 minutes and 26 seconds later the killer is down, but still moving. By 3:36, the killer is down hard.

I’d liked the way the clearing teams coordinated, both within the teams and with the other teams.

The school did well under the circumstances. I understood they immediately started evacuating kids out to a designated safe(r) area outside. And a staffer waited for the police on the sidewalk with information on the shooter and the keys to the building which were handed over the police.

It’s sad anyone had to die, but since we don’t have instantaneous teleportation, I think the police did damned well.

Finger-Pointing?

The Post Millenial seems to be suggesting that the Nashville police failed to respond to a warning about the Covenant asshole.

Nashville trans shooter sent DMs to friend announcing plans for ‘something bad,’ suicide—police did not respond to friend’s call for help
The report notes that Patton apparently called the Nashville Davidson County Sheriff’s Office at 10:13 am, making them aware of the situation. She was subsequently told to call Nashville’s non-emergency number.

The problem with that suggestion is this:

10:13 a.m.: Nashville Police receive a call of an active shooter inside Covenant School.

By the time Patton made her first call, for a nonemergency, the shooting had already started. The police were already being dispatched to that emergency call. By some reports, they were at the school in two minutes. By all accounts the chumbucket was dead by 10:27.

Patton’s nonemergency call wouldn’t have made a difference, other than possibly helping the police ID the shooter after she was dead.

Barring further data, it looks to me like the Nashville police responded pretty damned fast, did not hesitate to go in and confront the killer — Hey, Uvalde PD; are you taking notes? — and stopped her. All in less than 14 minutes from 911 getting the shooter call.

UPDATE 2: The School Shooting Narrative May Be In Trouble

The Covenant School shooter has been ID’d as (only time I’ll use the name) Audrey Hale, 20yo woman.
UPDATE: Confirmed.

BREAKING: Police confirm female Nashville school shooter identified as transgender

She used the name “Aiden.” I’m seeing lefties on Twitter bitch that people are “dead naming” “him” by calling her Audrey.

I think dead naming is entirely appropriate in this case.

BTW, maybe the Nashville police could teach Uvalde PD how it’s done.

UPDATE 2: This story will vanish by tomorrow morning, because

Nashville police chief confirms Audrey Hale identifies as transgender, suggests her trans identify played a role: “We have a manifesto … and a map of how all of this was going to play out.”

At a guess, she was crazy for years, got teased in school, and decided to get revenge.

Funny That

Two deadly incidents, one on the heels of the other.

Seven innocents dead in one. Six innocents dead in the other.

While I’m seeing calls for banning and confiscating firearms from people who didn’t commit the latter, I’ve yet to see a single call for banning chocolate.

TZP Column: Tyrants

TYRANTS GONNA TYRANNIZE
Another shooting with the usual conflicting jumble of ever-changing details, another screech to scrap the Constitution. From a former political cop who clearly never took his oath seriously.

“We had an assault weapons ban here for a number of years, it worked, and you know, when you look at what happened in New Zealand and how quickly that government responded to an incident, it’s just unconscionable that we can’t do something similar.”

Let’s break that down:

“Reporting” CBS-Style

Regarding the Nashville school shooting Ever-changing “facts,” as expected.

Previously, the alleged chumbucket was a female in her teens. Now CBS cites Nashville PD tweeting that… Well, CBS says

Police have identified the shooter as a 28-year-old white woman from Nashville, and officials said that she was armed with “at least” two assault rifles and a handgun.

Umm… that’s not what the police tweeted

the active shooter, who has now been identified as a 28-year-old Nashville woman.

Nowhere in the thread cited does it say her race. In fact, quite a few replies wonder about that, questioning why, if they know who the woman is down to her age, they don’t release her name or race. Maybe she’s white, maybe she’s not.

As for CBS reporting she had two “assault rifles,” BS. I’ve seen the police briefing: “two assault-style rifles.” Rather different.

Now, from pictures I’ve seen, this might indicate the shooter was white.

Police said their preliminary investigation indicates that the shooter was at one time a student at the school, Drake said. He did not know exactly when she may have attended.

All the students and staff I saw in pictures seem to be white. If she was a student maybe she is white. But given her reported age, and the fact the school opened in 2001, and only goes to sixth grade, she was unlikely to have been a student there past 2006; 17 years ago. Not sure how much bearing her possible student status might have on this.

So far, I’ve checked nine more reports on this. CBS is the only one reporting the woman as white, or the guns as “assault rifles.” Not even NBC nor NPR are claiming that yet. NBC did give the source for the prior student claim: MNPD police chief.

Oh, well. Maybe if a few more days, everyone will settle on a fixed narrative. the near real-time BS is something I’ve grown accustomed to.

Added: Oh, fuck’s sake. Gropin’ Joe Xiden has weighed in (of course):

You know, the shooter in this situation reportedly had two assault weapons and a pistol. Two AK-47s.”

I find two actual select-fire AK-47s to be extremely unlikely. Semi-auto AK-pattern firearms perhaps, but not AK-47s. (Yes, they deliberately use the wrong designation just to confuse the ill-informed. Though Uncle Gropy himself falls into that category.)

TZP Column: Children

CHILDREN
Another school shooting, in Nashville this time. Details are sparse: three dead child victims, one dead asshole perp. No ages, no weapon described.

But that doesn’t stop commenters from jumping to conclusions.

Added: More details coming out after I posted that. Three children dead, three adult school staffers dead. The alleged perp is a female who appears to be in her teens; she’s dead, too, killed by the police. Reportedly, she was “carrying two “assault-type rifles” and a handgun.”

Way too early for motive, but I had the horrible thought she just didn’t like Mondays.

Mistaking A Degree For An Education

That would be Bernard Warner.

Some folks pointed out that 33% is more than 28%, which prompted him to post the portion of the chart which he’d cropped out in his “educated” fashion.

33% versus 35% is lost in the noise; especially any public poll that asks suspicious gun owners to identify themselves as such, to random strangers on the phone.

But I’ll allow him the two points.

I don’t have a college degree; a specific conscious decision.* But I’ll put up my decades in telecom, and a pile of course certificates and diplomas a couple or three inches thick, against any social justice or journalism degree, and a large student debt.

I wonder if congressional offices call Warner for advice on policy and law, and drafting bills. Little ol’ “uneducated” me actually gets that. Because they know I’m smart and educated on that — and other — subjects. Not often, but it happens occasionally.

* I made that decision back in the ’90s. It came from three incidents while working at the late, not-so-great WorldCom.

I had an engineer in my POP doing turn-up testing on a new Nortel OC-48 system (a big deal ckba in the day). One day, myself, another tech, and this engineer were chatting in the office. Pay came up; when one of us techs said something about overtime, the engineer — a young kid fresh out of college — was astonished that we got overtime, because he didn’t.

I explained the difference between wage and salary. I had to explain, because he was clueless. He mentioned how much he was paid, and us lowly techs laughed; we made more.

Next up: The kid almost had a test ready to run: inject a T3 into an STS port, loop it at distant end, and run a bit error rate test. For acceptance, he needed a printout of the 72 hour test. But he couldn’t get the BERT set to talk to his printer. He asked me for help. I just looked at the comm port DIP switch settings, and set the BERT and printer to the same. Now it worked.

Finally: While the test was running he came back to the DSX panels where I was working, running T1 cross-connects. And then he asked me the most amazing question:

Which is faster, a T1 or a T3?

OK, some people wouldn’t know that; it was sorta specialized knowledge. But in the field we worked, that was extremely basic knowledge that anyone in that office should have known. Particularly if you’d gotten that fancy college degree to work in the field.

Who was more educated?

So; no degree, but make more money and know more about the field than degree boy. That’s when I decided stop working towards that electronic engineering degree.

“for all debts public and private”

Look at any US currency you have in your wallet.

“This note is legal tender for all debts public and private”

Unless you’re dealing with public debt owed to the federal government.

We’ve Entered An Era When The US Gov’t Won’t Even Take Its Own Money
On May 26, Mount Rainier National Park in Washington state will be the latest park to stop accepting cash at the entry booth.

Instead, visitors will be required to pay with credit or debit cards to enter what is a taxpayer-supported recreation area meant for hiking, biking, climbing, camping, exploring and sightseeing. The park management has, in its wisdom, decided that it’s not worth it to collect actual money, a marked change in the relationship between the people and the agencies that oversee the land owned collectively by the people.

US notes are no longer worth anything. Even the dot-gov admits it.

Fascism, Yet Again

“Fascism!” AOC Throws Tantrum on House Floor Over Bill Protecting Parental Rights – Slams Books on Table Like a Child (VIDEO)
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) threw a tantrum on the House floor Thursday over the Republican led Parents Bill of Rights.
[…]
Parents and guardians under the proposed legislation have a right to evaluate curriculum, meet with their children’s teachers, and review library books. They would also be granted permission to confront school boards and obtain information on violent activity occurring at schools.

So instead of public schools simply acting in a dictatorial fashion on behalf of the all-powerful government, individual parents would have oversight and input into their children’s education and the indoctrination teachers want.

That’s fascist?

fascism A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, a capitalist economy subject to stringent governmental controls, violent suppression of the opposition, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.

Pardon the co-opted (by commies) term, but that bill sounds kinda anti-fascist.
